I paid for this seat because my first infant seat (for my now 6.5yo) was made by Maxi-Cosi, and from what I could tell, none of the other brands compare, in terms of making a safe seat that is lightweight to carry with beautiful fabrics that are comfortable for your baby!
This seat does come with a base, which you have to search to product description carefully to discover! The fabric is beautiful, soft, and available in a wide array of colors. The seat is highly rated for safety, and it attaches to the base securely and easily, with your infant reclined at a nice angle (no head tipping forward uncomfortably). I quite like the shape of the carrying handle, the window shade works well, and the straps adjust without any trouble for me.
This seat works for babies up to 29" tall, but the weight limit is only 22lbs. Personally I don't like to carry a child heavier than that in an infant car seat, but if you tend to have heavier babies this might be a problem. I think it is perfect for tall, thin babies.
This is not a compact infant seat and the base is also quite long. Not a problem in my minivan (and is a key ingredient in the comfy recline the seat offers for the baby), but may be a problem if you have a more compact car.

I bought this seat for my new baby after i gave away my old maxi-cosi cabrio thinking that i'll never use it again.we were happy with our first maxi-cosi so we decided to get the same product this time.
While we where waiting for our seat to be delivered from amazon, my wife saw the base for the car on sale at Toys r' Us and bought it. We were happy with the purchase.
When we received the seat we were really happy with the color, the head rest and all the rest, but even more when we saw that this seat comes with the base! so we went back and returned the base we have bought and got a back a few dollares!.
Best Deals for Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat
Let me preface this by saying I'm an American living in Japan with a pretty small (by American standards) car. It's a Mazda Familia which I'm pretty sure is marketed as a Protege in the states. It's a small 4 door with a tight back seat even without the carseat. We purchased this seat because the matching stroller was gifted to us.I ordered this and it was delivered to my APO box with no problem in about a week. The packaging was a little weird (the carseat was attached to the base and then placed in a large clear bag like a garbage bag and then placed in the box) but there was no damage to the seat or the base. Included was the seat, base, two shoulder pads for the straps, the round infant head insert and the crotch guard.
AppearanceI get compliments on the appearance of this seat almost daily. The color is vibrant, the design modern and the fabric is soft. I machine wash the cover, shoulder pads, infant head insert and crotch guard on gentle with a bit of woolite and then machine dry on low. I've had it for four months and wash it about once a month and have had no fading or pilling. You do have to unthread the seat to get the cover off but the threading is really easy IMO.
BaseThe base spills over my backseat just a bit but is still level. For the price, this seat should have included an actual level like on the Graco seats but only includes an embossed line on the plastic. It's longer than it is wide so an adult can still sit in my tiny backseat with the carseat installed (we have it in the center). The base can be used with lower LATCH hooks or threaded with a locked seatbelt (a locking clip is included, it's attached to the underside of the seat itself for safe keeping). My Mazda has lower LATCH so I use that with my car. I installed this base all by myself and I will say it is quite difficult to get the LATCH belt tight enough around the base. There is about an inch of "play" side to side but sometime I feel like it loosens over time so I tighten it again once every 3 weeks or so (which is probably a safe carseat practice anyway). We were never able to install the base or the seat with the belts in my husband's Honda Accord (equivalent) but I think that's more because of the belts in his car than the seat. Center installed in my car we had to move both seats forward a bit, but not so much as to be very uncomfortable (and we're tall, 5'8 and 5'11).
AttachingThe biggest negative to this seat is the 2 handed release. To detach the seat from the base you have to reach at the top of the base (the section that spills over the edge in my case) and pull a long grey release button before lifting the seat out. As I mentioned, my seat is installed in the center so this is quite an inconvenience. I've gotten used to it but I would still rather there be a button or something. You also have to make sure that same release button is pulled all the way out to reattach the seat to the base (there's a little window with red to say it's not pulled out or green letters saying the seat can now be attached). Normally the action of pulling and holding the release to pull the seat out of the car leaves it pulled all the way back so you don't have to worry about it when putting the seat back in but sometimes (probably every 4th time) it isn't and I have to put the seat down and pull it out before attaching it. When the release is pulled it's very easy to just plop the seat in there. There's an audible click when the hooks attach (always double check though).
Belts, Clips & SlotsI've found this seat to be incredibly easy to thread which is plus because my son is really tall so I've already had to adjust the shoulder height twice in four months. I've had zero issues with the chest clip or lower clip, they're pretty standard. The lower clip has two slots and the shoulders have four. My son was 21" at birth and at four months is about 25.5". I have the shoulder straps on the second to highest slot but will probably have to move it again in the next couple of weeks. Remember, the straps should thread below the shoulder and come up and over. His feet are still within the seat but I doubt we'll make it past 6 months before we have to upgrade to a convertible.
Weight & Weight AllowanceAlone this carseat is probably the lightest I've ever picked up, weighing in at about 8lbs. Babies don't stay small forever and adding 15lbs of fluffy cuteness will make any seat heavy so having one that was light to begin with is a plus. This seat is for babies 22lbs or smaller so this won't have a very long life. At four months my son is already over 15lbs so I don't see this seat making it past the 6 month mark with us which kind of sucks for the price.
HandleThe handle is thinner than some other seats' and does not have any sort of padding whatsoever. I'm actually developing callouses from lugging my baby around in this thing but I'm sure that would happen with any unpadded bar. I'd buy a padalilly or something similar if you're going to get this seat to save your hands and arms. The good thing about the handle is that it can be in either position when attached to the base (and while the car is in motion). The bad thing is you need both hands to move it. There are two buttons, one on the base of each side of the handle, that have to be pushed at the same time to move it. A one hand operation would be ideal but this wasn't a deal breaker for me.
Use with Accessories
1Foray strollerWe use the seat with an older model Foray that was gifted to us by relatives. I love this seat with the stroller because it attaches directly to the base (the regular stroller seat comes off and is for use for 6m+ or when baby can sit up unassisted). It's much less bulky than other travel systems which is great because Japan is full of tight spots. I won't get into a review of the stroller since there's been a new one released anyway but I will say the only negative is there is (again) a two hand release to detach the seat from the stroller. There are two small grey buttons along the frame that must be simultaneously pushed and the seat released straight up.
2CoversWhen I purchased this seat I also purchased the rain cover and bug net. I've only used the rain cover like twice and it was pretty cumbersome to get on and off. Summer is only just arriving so I haven't used the bug net yet. Note that the bug net provides no UV protection. My son was born in Dec so we purchased an aftermarket muff that attached around the entire seat. Maxi Cosi makes one that threads through the belts (as not to interfere with them) but it was too expensive IMO so I picked up the one from the BX that fit just fine.
3 ToysThe bar is thinner than some but I've been able to attach toys to it with no issue.
All in all I would say this is an attractive, good quality seat. I can't say I would buy it again once we get back stateside and buy normal sized cars again but if you have a midsize or smaller car I would recommend it. I honestly don't think any other brand would fit without having the front passenger or driver with their knees in their chests.
UPDATE: 7/13/13
So my son is a couple days shy of 7 months and we HAVE to replace this seat because he's only half an inch shy of the 29" height max for this seat. Again, my son is 97th percentile in height so if you have a normal sized baby you should be fine but if you have a string bean like me you won't get much life out of this seat.
I've also had to start using this seat without the base. I don't know if it's the way the latch buckle (where the grey button is you press to lengthen the strap) sits right up under the edge of the seat, if I have a faulty latch belt or if my husband and I are just weaklings but we CAN NOT get the base to stay tight enough. One day I push it back and forth and there was like 3 inches of play on each side. Both my husband and I tightened the strap, drove home, took the baby out and move it again and it had loosened during the drive. I had to give up the ghost and deem it unsafe with the base. We now use it with the automatic locking belts behind the passenger seat. I don't like having him on the outside but I get a much tighter, safer installation with the belt. It's also really easy to put on so it's not a big hassle. If anything, it's easier than using the base.
The fabric is still as bright and beautiful as the day I got it though the shoulder pads have very minimal pilling. I would still recommend to someone in the market for a seat for smaller cars or a secondary seat for Dad or Grandma's car.
Honest reviews on Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat
I was choosing between this seat and the Chicco Keyfit 22, as they were the top seats rated by Consumer Reports. What ultimately led me to choose the Maxi Cosi seat was the fact that it was a couple of pounds lighter than the Chicco seat and that's a big deal to me as I don't want to be lugging around a heavy seat. (I'm not concerned with the 22 lbs weight limit as I don't plan on carrying my baby in this seat once he gets that heavy!) And I have to admit that it helped that this seat is so cute!My baby is only a week old so far so we haven't used it more than a few times yet, but I like the way that he fits snugly in the seat even though he's still so tiny and the way the handle is designed makes the seat easy to handle and carry around. Overall, very happy with this purchase so far.
**Update
My son is now two months old and I am still quite happy with this seat. We did have some problems getting the seat to click into the base for a while, but I've found that as long as I make sure that neither the LATCH strap (on the base) nor the strap that you pull to tighten the shoulder straps (on the seat) are in the way when you're putting the seat in, it goes in pretty easily. It still doesn't snap in as easily as my old Graco Snugride did, but I think that all the pros of this seat outweigh this one minor con. I've also used it without the base and found it really easy to install securely using just the seatbelt.
