I purchased this item from a rival of Amazon, and am preparing to get more to accommodate a growing brood of age 5+ summer travellers. Here, as well as on the competitors website, are a few stories reposted over and over about how the user used the product unsafely, attempting to violate the laws of physics, and then complained when gravity worked and the belt positioning booster was dislodged by being used in the unsafe manner in which they insisted on using it.
This seat has a four and five star rating for safety and ease of use from the NHTSA, and that has been borne out in my experience, using it as a mature adult shepherding age-appropriate children.
When the child enters the booster, he must stand in the passenger compartment with his back to the booster and "back up" into it. He must then thread the seat belt appropriately, with the shoulder rest across his chest (not neck) over his shoulder, and the lap portion of the belt across his lap, below his hips (not over his belly).
When the child is ready to leave the seat, he must unbuckle and remove the belt as much as needed to exit the seat. He must move forward and return to the standing position in the passenger compartment, free of the seat, before exiting the vehicle.
The seat itself weighs under three pounds. There are no laws of physics that would allow a person weighing a minimum of forty pounds to leave this or any other short, non-anchored booster style belt positioner by pivoting or contorting his body and not expect the booster to move as well. Most mature vehicle operators are aware of these elementary applications of physics and continue to use this seat, as I have for my varied children of appropriate weight and age, for a number of years.

The sides on this seat allow it to lean. When my grandaughter gets out of the car, she puts her hand on the top of the side of the booster seat. The seat leaned and she almost fell to the ground. When she tried to clip in her seat belt, she leaned to the side to get the end of the belt in the clip part. The seat leaned with her and covered the clip part. She is 4, so I thought my 7 year old grandson could work through these problems. Not so. I ended up returning it.Best Deals for Harmony Carpooler Backless Booster Seat, Black with Red Accents
I was on the fence about getting this because of the reviews that referred to it tipping. We have a Toyota Sienna and have had no issues at all. It fits perfectly in the seat and has a tether that you put on the seatbelt to adjust the seatbelt so it fits appropriately above the shoulder.Honest reviews on Harmony Carpooler Backless Booster Seat, Black with Red Accents
A few days ago we test drove a BMW 330i convertible, thought it would be fun to buy a summer car (even though summer in MN is almost over). We were shocked when our boys' booster seats wouldn't sit right in the back seat. The backseats are contoured like front seats often are in sportier cars. The base of our old booster seats were too wide to fit properly in the seat, leaving about a 3" gap between the actual seat of the car and the center of the booster. We wanted to buy the car, but not if our kids couldn't ride in it. So, I saw these, which are marketed towards people looking for 3 seats in the back of an SUV, but they are also a great solution for a sportier/bucket style seat. Even though they're about 4" narrower than our other seats, my boys fit comfortably in them. I have no concerns in a 2-door car about the tipping issues described by others. For me, these are a great find. Went back and bought the BMW this afternoon, with new booster seats in hand.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Harmony Carpooler Backless Booster Seat, Black with Red Accents
What was not clear to me from the picture or product description or other non-Amazon sources regarding this seat, is that the sides of the seat are several inches wider than the base.If you are like me, you are looking at this product because you need a narrow booster and are trying to get 3 kids across the back seat. I have a chicco fit 30 and a diono radian 100 in the back of a 2009 subaru forester. That should have left me plenty of room for the advertised 14.5 inches wide booster in between, but it didn't, due to the wider upper part of the booster. Add to that the issue of pulling the seat belt thru the gap in the sides, and it was very hard to get my son strapped into this seat while it was in between the other two seats.
I had only a little trouble installing it but getting him into it was a challenge. I am told that if I put the booster on one of the outside positions (behind the driver, optimally), I would have an easier time. But then I would have to use the middle seat belt to attach a latch-enabled car seat in the middle position where there is no latch hook available. Like most people, I am not very successful at attaching car seats via seat belt (I think that is why the LATCH was invented it makes it easy to install car seats correctly). I don't want to have to go to DMV every time I have to re-install my car seats.
Don't tell me -I know -get a mini van.
