I am so glad we picked this as our son's second car seat. He is a tall child and outgrew his infant carrier at about 5 months. I would not put a newborn in it despite the rating we started using it when he was about 12 pounds.

The seat is a little bulky but if you leave the cupholders off it's not bad in a midsize car. My son couldn't reach the cupholders anyway so they weren't much use. My only real complaint besides the fabric being dark (which makes it hotter in the summer) is that it doesn't have as much padding as I would have liked. I bought an egg-crate mattress pad, trimmed it down to size including seatbelt holes, and slipped it under the removable (read: washable!) fabric, and the seat lasted a good 2 years before he outgrew it. We bought a second one for the other car and it held up fine too it's still with us, awaiting our new arrival.

With the extra padding long car rides were no problem; we had to go cross-country twice and he slept and played peacefully. With smaller babies you would need to put in either a rolled-up towel or a headrest to keep them from slumping. All in all unless you want to spend a fortune on a top-of-the-line model this is the best one we found.

As others have noted, this shouldn't even be advertised as a rear facing car seat. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to install this as a rear facing unit without having a very large and unacceptable level of wiggle room. I am amazed they are legally even allowed to sell this as a rear facing unit.

It should also be noted that to install this as a rear facing unit, they ask you to use folded up towels to elevate the seat to the right height, but the towels will settle, compress, and move around over time. So the seat again becomes dangerously loose over the time as the towel changes position. Last time I am buying a Cosco product.

It was shipped promptly and my 7 month old Grandson has plenty of room to grow in this.. He's big for his age and wear 24 month old clothing..very pleased with this!!!
