Review of Evenflo Big Kid AMP No Back Booster Car Seat

I ordered this seat because my husband and I were taking our four year-old son on a vacation, and I knew we'd be riding in a lot of taxis over long distances so I wanted him to be safe. We'd only used a five-point child seat before this trip, so even though our son was (just) heavy enough (40 pounds) and tall enough for a booster I was quite nervous about using it. I chose this seat because it was one of the extremely few backless boosters chosen by the (American) Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (here's the URL for their booster test results: ). I admit I don't know if this booster passes European safety standards, but because of it's ranking by the Insurance Institute here I was willing to risk it overseas. Please note however, that if you're thinking of buying this internationally you might want to verify that it's considered safe enough by your own country's requirements, as they can be different.

To my very delighted shock, the 'Amp' car seat worked perfectly and very, very easily from the first time I placed it in the back seat of a London taxi. We rarely even needed the attached belt clip (also very easy to use) because the shoulder belt fell correctly almost every single time without it. The lap belt was always exactly placed as well.

The seat is light, which was another bonus since we had a lot of luggage to haul around. My son was even able to carry it by himself without difficulty. I've also cleaned both the cushion and the plastic seat itself, so I can attest to how easy it is to remove the cushion and wipe dirt off it, as well as off the plastic seat underneath. It also seemed to be quite comfortable for my son, since he sat in it for a nearly four-hour drive and never once complained about the booster.

For being able to add price and convenience to the fact that this is one of the safest boosters on the market, I don't think you can do much better than this product.

I really liked this seat. Loved the blue color and shiny finish. The elastic strap around the two cup holders on each side was nice to accommodate all sizes and shapes of cups.

Overall the base/seat was a good size, a little smaller than the previous seat we normally use which was good because we were in a smaller car than usual. Of course if you have a small back seat and try to use it in the middle it would be wider than the seat area allotted for the middle person. Which leaves the people on each side a little cramped. This also makes the seat belt a little harder and trickier to latch. But it definitely served its purpose and was lightweight and easy to transfer from car to car as needed.

I bought this seat sight unseen from Amazon. I had never heard about it before my search and based my purchase off of the other reviews. I am glad I purchased this booster seat and had no regrets or buyers remorse. It was exactly what I needed and wanted.

My child really liked the arm rests, but did not like how the arm rests were rounded and made their arms slide off sometimes with different sitting positions.

Overall, I would highly recommend this seat for your big kid!

I purchased this booster seat for my 7 year old who has to start riding in a booster again due to the upcoming law change on Sept 1st. We chose this seat because of the thick padding. No other booster seat comes close to being this soft. The drink holder is great but may not stand the test of time, we will see. We test drove this seat for a couple of weeks and she is in love. Just ordered her another so we can have one in each car. Perfect booster for older kids.

Safety is a number one priority for me with my son. I had Britax carseats in both family cars and he used them until he was too tall for their recommendation. I did a lot of research and found that this booster was very highly rated and that the Insurance Institute of Highway safety had it listed as a best buy if used with the attached clip. Originally, I had a notion that the full back would be safer but my research only cited comfort for longer trips as an advantage for the full back seat, so I went with this one. The price is great and the color choices are fun. We have a red and blue one for our cars. The drink holders are nice and they will hold even odd shaped juice boxes. I highly recommend this seat to anyone whose child no longer fits in a carseat.

My almost 4 year old is over 40 lbs. so it was time to upgrade. He loves this seat! It's light weight so he's able to move the booster himself to a different spot in our minivan and he's able to put his seatbelt on and take it off all by himself. All of this makes him feel like a big boy. Also, he's mature enough to listen when we say he must never take the seat belt off while the car is moving. Keep that in mind when deciding on this type of seat.

My son doesn't fall asleep in the car much anymore, so I was not concerned about having support on the sides. I would definitely not recommend these backless boosters for a child younger than 3 for that reason.

I'm not a big traveler, but I can imagine using this lightweight seat on planes and rental cars, without the expense of renting or lugging a full-size, heavy car seat.
