We have never used anything but evenflo. Our first 3 seats from them yes three because my son was in two car accidents one being a side impact and WALKED AWAY even though the car was totaled. Just a quick safety tip after a seat is in an accident it needs to be thrown away. Cut the straps and throw it away. Your insurance company should cover another one. My son is now taller and We needed to upgrade to a larger seat and evenflo was our first choice.
If your thinking about buying a cheap $50 car seat DONT DO IT. Being a Firefighter EMT I have see what happens with the cheap seats. The kids are hurt soooo much worse. They are made only at the lowest possible standard to pass.
The evenflo *more expensive seats EXCEED all standards and have great side impact! My son is LIVING proof.

I bought this car seat for my son when he outgrew his infant seat. It fit ok rear facing in my small SUV at the time. It fits great now front facing in my minivan. I just bought a second one for my second child. This seat is so much easier to use than any other car seat. It is very easy to install with the easy LATCH straps. The shoulder straps are easy to adjust, you don't even have to take your kid out of the seat. If you put him in and see that he grew 4 inches overnight, you just slide the straps up higher. Or if you put a different kid in the seat you can slide the straps down to fit. The straps are also easy to tighten and loosen to get kids in and out. The cover comes off pretty easily to wash it, without even taking the seat out of the car. My son loves his seat, he sleeps fine in it on long trips. The cup holder is completely useless but thats really not a big deal. We don't really try to recline it as my son doesn't seem to care. We have 2 other similar seats... one in daddys car and one in grandmas car, and this one is by far our favorite.Best Deals for Evenflo Symphony 65 LX Car Seat, Beauford
we bought this seat for my son when he outgrew the weight limit for his infant seat. what appealed to me about this seat was its versatility and the fact that he can use it not only as a rear-facing seat, but also a forward-facing seat and then a booster seat up to 100 lbs. i don't anticipate having to purchase another car seat!my son seems to enjoy his "big boy seat" much better than his infant one. while the seat is large, it's not AS big as other seats on the market, and i don't find the size cumbersome at all. it fits just fine in our SUV ('98 isuzu rodeo). even when in its fully reclined position, we still have room to adjust both the passenger and driver's seats in our car. the size of the car seat doesn't interfere with the mobility of the front seats at all. this car seat is also easy to install with options for lap belts, latch systems, and shoulder/lap belts.
comfiness was a big factor for us since we live in a rural town and spend a lot of time on the road just to get to the grocery store. i appreciated the softness of the seat's upholstery and the amount of padding. i compared this to the britax marathon, which was the other car seat we were considering...the marathon was hard and felt like it had no padding whatsoever!
i aso feel like this seat, compared to its next generation the symphony 65 e3, was a better fit for our family because my son loves to look around and watch the world pass by during drives. the e3 has larger head support "wings" that would've blocked his vision. i think that this seat still provides adequate support while allowing my child the felxibility to observe the world around him.
there is an additional head rest insert for smaller babies who use the seat, but i find it cumbersome. it doesn't attach well to the seat with it's velcro. and the bottle/cup holder that comes with the seat is useless. but these "cons" aren't enough for me to regret my purchase. i still give this a 5/5 stars!
Honest reviews on Evenflo Symphony 65 LX Car Seat, Beauford
I literally just installed this seat in my 2007 subaru outback. We were pretty tight on space in our backseat, so we needed a seat that wasn't gigantic, which is apparently nearly impossible. Anyway, my husband and i are 5'4" and 5'9" but we like a lot of leg room upfront. This seat fits perfectly behind the passenger side, rear facing, with plenty of recline and leg room for the front passenger. It has side impact protection, but the wings aren't huge, so it doesn't seem as if we'll have a hard time getting our 30" 20 lb daughter into and out of it. She HATES getting into the carseat, so ease of in and out is a big deal to us. I took the seat out of the box and had to move the latch connector things from the front facing configuration to the rear facing, which took maybe 5 minutes including partially removing the cover then putting it back on. I had it installed in my car, by myself, in another 5-8 minutes. I don't understand the reviews stating that it is hard to install; i don't think it could have been easier. I just need someone heavier than me to push on it and pull the latch straps a little tighter. I did fold a towel under it to get it to the "correct" level. Evenflo should have put a bubble level on this rather than just an arrow. Also, the reviews saying this seat is big/huge, i have to disagree. Like i said, it fits very nicely rear facing in our outback and only takes up the one seat space in the back, and i've heard subarus are kind of notorious for having annoying back seats when it comes to fitting car seats. As an aside, we had originally bought a Britax Boulevard 70 G3, really hoping it would be good. But i have to return it because the leg straps sit so low on her little thighs ( and she isn't a chubby baby) that they dig into her legs and left red lines across them, before even tightening the straps all the way. Within a minute or two i know there was no way this would be comfortable for her and no way she would grow into it. The Evenflo straps are a less stiff material that do not seem to dig into her legs. Also, the Boulevard didn't seem to have a whole ton of width to it, whereas the Evenflo has a lot of growing room both width and height wise. I also like tha for about $80 cheaper (bought at babies r us for $160 on sale) this seat can be used up to 100 pounds as a rear facing, forward facing, then high back booster. Had a feeling, and read other reviews online, that the britax just wasn't going to accomodate as the child got taller and that you were nearly guaranteed to have your kid grow out of it height wise way before weight. And the Britax isn't a high back booster so i'd be buying another seat later on anyway.
Also, i almost decided on the Chicco Nextfit, but it seemed tha the chest clip would be way way too easy for a kid to figure out, and if there is a way out of something our daughter will absolutely figure it out. Plus the Chicco is so rounded and the wings come around sooo much. That was a problem with the DLX version of the evenflo, the extra head wings were ridiculous and i couldn't get our daughter into and out of it without bashing her head on the side of the car. So hopefully we will end up liking this seat in the long run; we have yet to actually drive somewhere with her in it. I don't anticipate that she will behave much differently than when she was in her infant seat, but maybe there will he a little less screeching and crying coming from back there now! But i think this seat is as good as it gets for us it fits her and the car comfortably.
