I just got a new 2005 Ford Freestyle with leather seats in place of my 2000 Ford Expedition with cloth seats. When I uninstalled my Britax Roundabout from the Expedition, there were obvious dents in the seat both from the base and the back of the car seat. I purchased this mat (in tan) for the new car to hopefully prevent these dents from happening with the leather seats. I can usually get my Roundabout to install very tightly and not even move AT ALL, let alone an inch. But with this mat, the base was sliding more than an inch. So I took the piece of non-skid shelf liner that the Fire Dept had given me a while ago, and which I had been using up until this point, and put it underneath the mat. That stopped all the sliding. I can already tell that the mat will prevent the dents. It seems to me the product manufacturers just need to add a non-skid layer to the bottom. But for now, the two layers together have gotten me back to a very tight installation with NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER! And I don't have to worry about scuffs and dents on the leather seats.

This protector does the job on preventing dents in leather seats.Remember that these days any type of professional is afraid of a lawsuit, and do not want to use any type of aftermarket product that could interfere with their "professional" installation. That is why no one will approve these mats, or even cupholders on strollers anymore!!!
As a carseat safety fanatic, and being pretty educated on carseat installations I felt confident that I could make a decision if this was inhibiting a proper installation. I see no problems. To be sure the carseat is strapped in super tight, I sit in it as I pull the straps. It doesn't budge one centimeter left or right, or front to back.
This saver was easy to put in the car, and did not need to be adjusted a million times as I tightened in the carseat using LATCH & tether (we use the Britax Marathon). A previous saver bunched and made installation impossible, but this one is very thin, firm and stays put. The add on back was the perfect height, and did not block the tether strap in our F150. It also stayed upright as I put the carseat into place.
This blends in nicely with our black seats and looks good. It's available in three colors black, tan, and grey. Let's face it if you're interested in this product it's because you care how things will look long term!
This saver is a great combo of safety and function. While it may not perform perfectly with every single carseat/car combination if your seat is moving more than an inch in any direction it's not installed correctly whether you are using seat saver or not!

I have 4 of these seat savers in various colors (gray and tan no black). I have almost no complaints about these, they do their job. My only gripe is one that I have seen mentioned in other reviews here, and that is that the back section does not come up high enough....nowhere near as high as most carseats. As a result (depending on the carseat you use) there could be some marks left on the back of your seats. As for the rest of my review, these seat savers do a great job. They are made of a semi hard rubber material and no matter what the base of your carseat is like, it will not damage or dent the bottom of your vehicle's seat surface. Many of the other brands are just fabric and foam and I feel like some carseats would press right through when anchored down tightly. Might as well use an old towel if that's the direction you are thinking about going in. An added benefit is these tend to catch a lot of dropped snacks and cereal and will contain anything spilled on them. That's a plus!
As for some of the complaints I have read here, anyone who says that their kids' carseats move around too much with these seat savers is simply NOT anchoring their carseats tightly enough. I have 4 of these seat savers and have used them in 3 different vehicles over the last 4 years and NONE of my carseats move. If you find your carseats moving around they are NOT tight enough....ask someone to help you tighten them. I have never seen any discoloration as a result of using these, though I have only used the tan and gray versions on tan, gray and black leather seats. I suppose it might be possible for the black seat savers to discolor a lighter color fabric or leather. I also saw a review that claimed the seat savers stick to leather and destroy the seats. I have never seen this happen in 4 years, though if I had to guess based on my experience, a child probably spilled some juice on the seat and it eventually "glued" the seat saver to the seats. My advice....clean up spills quickly and clean underneath your kids' carseats regularly and you will be fine!

I went to BRU to try and purchase the all rubber Lionheart seat protector and they didn't have it. I was pretty much dead set against this one because of the "professionals" review. Well, (with help from the guy from BRU, we took this one out of the package and pulled my car seat off of the display. We then tried it out on the seat that they have available at BRU for just such tests. It was fine. I just installed it in my vehicle (Envoy XL) it doesn't have the largest seats in the world and this fit just fine. No, it didn't completely cover the back of the seat, but it wasn't made to. Most indentations occur on the seat bottom and the mid section of the seat. This covers all of that just fine. I don't know why the "professional" says that this protector is too thick...it isn't thick at all. Go to BRU and have one of their friendly folks do a demonstration. I give it 2 thumbs up!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Prince Lionheart 2 Stage Seatsaver
I was a bit surprised to remove the seat protector after about a year and discover that it had damaged small patches of the leather seat under it. It appears that the non-slip coating on the bottom adhered to the leather, and when I pulled it off it took some of the leather dye with it. If it matters to anyone this was in an '04 BMW 330 with leather (not leatherette).Unfortunately I can't recommend this product because it didn't do the one thing that it was supposed to.
For reference I have a car seat installed in my other car without the seat protector, and the car seat has not caused any damage at all. I wish I hadn't bothered with this.
If you are going to use it with leather my recommendations would be a) put a nice coat of leather conditioner on the seat, and remove the seat protector every so often and reapply the conditioner or b) put a thin soft cloth underneath to create a barrier between the seat and the nonstick layer (although this may cause the car seat to slip about).
