We have the Britax Marathon 70 but wanted to get a carseat for our 2nd car. This Britax Roundabout seems to be comparable to the Marathon 70, but is almost $100 less expensive. When I compared the two on the Britax website, it seems they have all the same "safety" features. The main differences are those of convenience and are easy to do without, like the quick adjust harness, easy to remove cover, chest pads, etc. In short, we have the more expensive version of this carseat (Marathon 70) and we are just as happy with this one!

I am so relieved that after all the research I did to change from an infant carseat to a toddler carseat, that this works for us.

After reading http://carseatblog.com/carseatblogcoms-recommended-car-seats/ and their reasoning for how awesome Britax is, I decided to look into them. I weighed my options and decided that the Marathon was not for us, too bulky. So the Advocate and the Boulevard 70 were my next choices. However, after talking to friends, they all seemed to say the same thingthat their kiddos had outgrown their standard-weight carseats because they had gotten too TALL, not too HEAVY. This made me think that paying an extra $50-100 was not worth it.

With the Roundabout, you are still getting the rear-facing tether and all the other Britax goodies. The only 2 things lacking between this and the Boulevard was that the straps are not easily adjustable (not a problem for us, as we live in South Texas, so the idea of the conundrum of "adjust straps everytime you take off/ put on a winter coat" was laughable). The second thing the Roundabout doesn't have compared to the Boulevard is an easily removable cover to wash. I actually shrugged while typing that. To me, if he pukes or does something messy in it, I'm already going to be annoyed with having to clean the darn thing anyway, so why pay more just to have it come off easier? I'm a first time mom, so if that statement comes back to bite me in tush later, I'll letcha know (internet karma gods are coming up with an evil plan as you read this, I'm sure).

My son is a petite guy, we bought this carseat at the beginning of May (had it for about 2 months now, which is shocking, because it feels like forever!) I seriously think our carrides becoming more enjoyable recently has EVERYTHING to do with this carseat. He is still rear-facing and cried 99% of the time we were ever in the car. We had a Graco Snugride and the little guy (1 year old and 25% for height/weight when we received this) was getting too tall for it. The Britax sits MUCH higher, has more cushion, and has more hip space. His head falls to the side when he sleeps, but I don't think he is uncomfortable since he can still sleep during most of our drive to visit the in-laws (he slept before for about 2 hours, and does now, too).

I cannot say enough good things about this carseat. We even still have the box, it's his favorite toy (go figure!) I am going to buy another for Grandma and Daddy... sounds like a lot of $$ to be dropping on a carseat or 3, right? Wrong!! If you are looking at Amazon right now and see it is $150 or something, you have got to check out http://camelcamelcamel.com/ I got our carseat for $134.99. I AM NOT JOKING! I should add one more thing: I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute (similar to Ford Escape) and it fits GREAT in the middle of the back seat. In fact, I have more elbow room on the middle front console now that he is not in an infant carseat.

Buy one. Seriously. But first go to Babies R Us and see if the Marathon fits in your car (it's massive, so if it's too wide, it doesn't matter). Ok, after that you should buy this carseat.

Honest reviews on Britax Roundabout 55 Convertible Car Seat

We bought our first Roundabout nearly 8 month ago for my son to use in Grandma's car (he was 16 weeks old at the time). We loved it so much that we bought another for my car when the infant seat became too heavy for me to carry. He's now 11 months old and about to outgrow his Graco snugride 35 (because of height limit, not weight), and we are planning to buy a 3rd Roundabout for dad's car. The roundabout was relatively easy to install (in my Honda civic and Grandma's mini cooper) and not too bulky to fit in our relatively small cars. The shoulder straps are easy to adjust when we've had to accommodate changes from bulkier winter clothes to summer clothes and now back again. We haven't had any major messes, but spot cleaning has been no problem. And my little guy seems to find the seat comfortable--we did an 8 hour road trip and he slept for most of it! Of course, we haven't used it forward facing yet, but so far we love it as a rear facing seat!

We purchased this car seat after trying an Evenflo Symphony, which just didn't fit well in our car, our child just could not sleep in and didn't seem comfortable.

This Britax is great. We like to use the seat rear facing in the middle, and it fits well. The shape of the back of the seat allows it to nestle in between the front seats, and allows a comfortable amount of recline. Unlike the Evenflo, in this Britax our child seems comfortable (always seemed scrunched in the Evenflo for some reason). The Britax seems to have a nice amount of lumbar support for the child, making seating comfortable.

We still needed to prop the base to be level, as car seats are not level, which allowed a nice reclined position. The fact these seats are designed to recline when the base is on a flat surface is still a gripe of mine, as vehicle manufactures do not make seats level.

The "Versa Tether" feature was quite unexpected, and allowed me to tether to the base of the front seat providing a super secure mounting. This tether extends from the top of the back of the seat and includes a webbing loop to secure to solid points in the vehicle that do not have any way to clip to otherwise.

I also didn't expect and really liked the locking clips under the padding for use when securing with seat belt instead of the LATCH system. These seemingly eliminate the need for the metal locking clip that other car seats we have used required. The belts are run along a specific path, and these blue clips pinch them to lock the belt in place very easy and no worry of forgetting or losing an external clip.

All in all, a great seat at a very reasonable price. I will update if anything happens or changes our minds, but at this point we expect to get many many miles of usage from this seat.
