This is how to choose which Britax cars seat will work for you. It can be confusing and small differences matter.

The numbers 55 and 70 indicates maximum weigh of the child. CS means Click and Safe snug harness indicator, G3 is new line with 2 new features:

HUGS new chest pads with safecell technology that are designed to compress in a crash and reduce the amount of impact forces experienced by the child and

EZ easy buckle system that prevents the child from sitting on the buckle when boarding.

From the simplest to the most advanced the new G3 models go:

Roundabout (up to 55 lb), Marathon, Boulevard, Pavilion and Advocate (all up to 70 lb). First two are the base models and I only considered the Boulevard, Pavilion or Advocate.

I chose the Pavilion 70-G3 because has all the features that matter to me (Roundabout and Marathon lacks them, the rest have them);

true side impact protection,

new chest pads that are designed to compress in a crash and reduce the amount of impact forces experience by child,

click and safe snug harness indicator.

The Advocate goes further and has a bulky addition in the head area for more safety, but it was too bulky for my VW Tiguan. This the only difference between the Advocate and Pavilion.

Boulevard CS doesn't have NEW easy buckle system and Boulevard G3 doesn't have CS (click and safe snug harness indicator).

Overall I rate the this car seat 5 stars. No complaints:

my son loves it, looks comfortable and the middle position is perfect to sit and watch the world through the window and take a nap without his head hanging down,

easy to remove the seat cover ( manufacturer recommends only hand wash, no dryer but it is fine to use washer and line dry),

easy to keep it clean (I wipe it with disinfection clothes and looks great),

approved for air travel, although for me too bulky for plane (infant car seat is more useful for me on the plane and toddlers can just seat on the lap or seat),

made in USA ("with global components"),

they don't feel cheap, I compared different brands in the store and liked Britax the most,

seat is very secure, there is no movements I had some with my Chicco Keyfit 30 infant car sear, but this is different base and seat,

my son was never sweaty after a car ride,

easy to install but I wouldn't want to switch the car seat between 2 cars, would buy another one,

I bought it for my 1 year old who is big enough to use it forward facing (according to instructions and my judgement), but it is reversible for rear facing, can be used from the birth (obvious minus-can not take sleeping infant with the car seat outside).

UPDATE: My son is 2 years old, 30lb and still loves the seat and fits well in it even in the winter coat. After 1 year seat and cover looks like new. The only thing this seat is missing is a cup holder for older toddlers.

A second baby is coming soon so I probably will buy a booster type of seat 25/40 lb-120 lb for the older child and younger will inherit this one.

I read everything on convertible carseats: differences between EPP and EPS foams, safety features and whats really important, fabrics, faulty manufacturing, recalls, ease of installing, etcetcetc. Surprisingly, after reading EVERYTHING, I nailed it down to 4 that I wanted to look at in person which were:

Recaro Proride

Diono

Peg Premo

Snugli

How I ruled out the 4 above:

Recaro ProRide its quite a bit taller and I am pretty sure it wouldn't fit in the middle of our Audi Q5. It also doesn't have EPS or EPP foam in the side walls where as the Britax does. Granted, it isn't safety law to have foam on the side walls but if you can have it, why not get a seat that has it.

Diono SUPER tall and would also not work in our car. I also didn't care for the fabric. It doesn't sit as low as the britax does and from all my research I learned that it's safer for the child to sit low in the seat like a bucket. It is really heavy but I wouldn't mark it down for that because we would be putting it in the car and leaving it.

Peg Perego honestly, it's pretty much the same seat as the Britax. I would call it the Italian version of the Britax. I didn't choose it because the price point I could get the Britax for was better

Snugli after narrowing down it came between buying this seat and the Britax. I loved that the fabric is cooling since my daughter is a toaster oven and I really wanted to get it for that fact plus its super cushy and the fabric is slick. When I put my daughter in it, her head was pushed forward while her body sat back in the seat. The pillow on top is tooooo cushy and she ended up looking really uncomfortable. Granted, my daughter is a little girl at 13mo, 18lbs, 27".

Now, why I chose the Pavilion vs the other models:

Advocate only difference is that it has hard plastic + eps foam on the outer side of the seat. It's supposed to protect someone sitting next to the car seat as well as the baby inside the seat from getting hit by something on the side. In my opinion, that bit on the side is super hard and if you were sitting next to it, you'd still get hurt. I also thought the added width wouldn't fit in the middle of our back seat. I want her in the middle which would be safer than by the window so the side plastic bits aren't really necessary for us.

Boulevard only difference is that it doesn't have CS (click safe) In fact, the Boulevard CS is now called the Pavilion. We thought it was worth the extra $20 bucks to get a seat with CS, why not?

Marathon only difference is it doesn't have CS and it doesn't have EPP head cushions. I put my daughter in this too and since she is tiny, I liked that the Pavilion head rest hugged her a little more.

Why Britax:

because I liked that it uses EPP foam which is better quality foam than EPS. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=298670

assembled in the US. Yeah, its foreign parts but my thought was that maybe while their assembling in the US, if they saw a flaw in a part they might call it out. That could be totally false but hey, it's just what I think =p

I am a germaphobe, so I like that I can take off the cover super easy and clean it =D

I can adjust it around my little kid

I figure Britax knows what their doing since they been at it a while

fabric is real soft and won't irritate my daughters skin like her graco snugride did =(

I haven't installed it yet but will update the review once I do that =) Happy hunting!

UPDATE: I had the car seat installed by the CHP which I HIGHLY recommend. They show you how it should go in and how stable the seat should be when it is in correctly. I had to remove the seat later on and put it back in myself and I knew exactly how to do it. After I installed it myself I found that I had not put it in as tight as the CHP tech so I had my husband give it a go. It definitely needed the extra muscle and he was able to do it with no problem. FYI this is all rear facing

I've been using this seat for about a month now and the only thing that I am not happy with is the velcro on the seatbelt. They put the velcro there so that you can stick the belt to the side walls of the seat so they are out of the way when putting your child in. The problem is, the hook part of the velcro can easily scratch your kid. I really dont understand why they didnt use the HTH velcro which is the hook velcro that is softer to the touch and mostly used on baby products. It's not a deal breaker but it is kind of annoying to have this great seat with this one stupid flaw that could have been avoid by using a better velcro.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program

The point of my review is to address the ease of putting a child into the carseat and taking her out. My daughter, in the video, is 5 months old and 14-15 lbs. At her size, it is easy for me and comfortable for her to go in and out of the carseat with safe and secure settings.

While I understand people have issues with larger children, I want to show that for smaller babies at least, this carseat is very accommodating and comfortable and easy (and of course top of the line in safety). So far I have no reason to think this won't last her until she's ready for a booster, because the straps seem to have plenty of room to grow with her.

She had been in a Keyfit 30, and this is definitely a much nicer/easier/comfier carseat for her. The Keyfit 30 was already feeling cramped.

Honest reviews on Britax Pavilion 70-G3 Convertible Car Seat

I've always loved Britax seats and it kills me to write a bad review, but I have to.

I bought this car seat for my son just when he turned three this summer. He weighs about 34lb now, so is well within the weight limit of 70lb for this seat. I have no issues with the safety rating for this seat, and would give that aspect a 5-star rating. My big issue is that the straps on the 5-point harness are ridiculously short. Even in the summer wearing shorts and tshirt, there was very little extra on the straps, and only could be tightened up an inch before they were fully tight. Now he's wearing a thick sweater and/or coat, and it is damn near impossible to get the straps done up. There is nowhere near enough slack on the straps to get a child in easily (or at all when he's wriggling). I even took the seat out to check that the straps weren't caught on anything, but, no, this is just the way they are made. I don't think a child of 70lb could fit into these straps, and I think it is a serious design flaw from Britax. This seat is only a few months old and in perfect condition, but I'm now looking at replacing it for one that my son can actually fit into.

Very disappointed with Britax this time. A total waste of money in my case.

For those reviewers that say the harness is too tight: well I thought the same thing, until I read the directions. To loosen the strap you must not only press the hidden button, but you pull on the "chest clip" to loosen the straps, not the hugs parts. If you pull outward correctly, the the straps loosen way out and the child can sit comfortably. I like the seat a lot but was also confused on how to recline it. It fits well in our BMW and also our SUV

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is our second Graco infant carseat. The first one is still in good condition, but it expired before our third child outgrew it (did you know that carseats have expiration dates?) There have been some nice design changes in the last 5 plus years and some changes that I do not love. Here are the pros and cons as I see them.

Pros:

:: It is the lightest infant car seat for infants 4 to 35 lbs. That being said, it is still heavy when you have a growing child in it :)

:: Since it is recommended that kids stay facing backwards in the car until they are 2 now, it is nice that kids can stay in this carseat until they are 35 lbs (because to me an infant carseat facing backwards takes up less room in the car than a toddler carseat facing backwards).

:: The fabric is nice and the outer shell is easily removable, so it can be thrown in the washing machine to clean.

:: It has four slots so you can to adjust the strap height depending on your child's size (our previous model only had 3).

:: The base is easy to install.

:: It comes with an infant insert which is great for small babies.

Cons

:: The shade crinkles (makes noise) when you move it. This is not ideal when you have a sleeping baby.

:: The shade is hard to open and close, especially when you have the handle up because they rub against each other.

:: While it is said to fit with Graco Click Connect strollers, it does not fit securely into the (older) universal stroller frame (like our first Graco did). I guess I would just recommend that if you are not going to buy a Graco stroller, that you do good research to make sure this carseat is compatible with your stroller.

With baby products, I have found that there is no perfect carseat, stroller etc because there are varying features and no product does it all. We have several Graco products and I am impressed with the quality and durability. I recommend this carseat despite the minor annoyances I found with it.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Having been out of the parenting scene for almost twenty years it was quite a culture shock to find that our home would soon be welcoming a new little one. Car seats twenty years ago didn't offer much in the way of extras and at that time infant seats were given to new parents at the hospital. When we began looking for a car seat for our expected bundle of joy we decided to purchase Graco SnugRide Classic Connect Infant Car Seat, Little Hoot. As this was the only seat we were using at the time and had little experience with what car seats now offer we didn't realize how much we were missing until we received this seat for review.

The Graco SnugRide Classic Connect Infant Car Seat, Little Hoot only accommodates a baby up to 22 pounds, the harness straps have to be adjusted manually(UGH!) each time we put baby into the seat, and the reclining feature is very difficult to reach and use in the rear facing position.

We fell in love with this car seat immediately. The color is nice for our little boy but the car seat fabric is kinda rough so we use a Kiddopotamus Snuzzler Complete Head and Body Support, Ivory Terry. The harness straps are released with the pull of a lever located in the seat and tightened with a pull of a strap. Had I known what a difference this would have made in ease of use we would have purchased our first seat with this feature. I now know it is a must have for infant car seats.

The Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35 was a breeze to install in our vehicle. The installation meter on the base of the car seat is easy to read and with just a quick glance you can see if the seat is properly installed and in the correct position or if adjustments need to be made.

The reclining mechanism is controlled with a knob on the front of the base and can be reached and turned easily.

Removing and putting the seat into the base is very easy, with or without baby inside, and it is lighter in weight than our original seat.

The only thing we find we don't like about this seat is the shade. It doesn't cover our little ones face as much as the Graco SnugRide Classic Connect Infant Car Seat, Little Hoot and is difficult to open if the handle is in the carry position.

Of the two car seats we prefer this one. It does cost more than the Graco SnugRide Classic Connect Infant Car Seat, Little Hoot but it is worth it in my opinion to have the extras offered with this seat.

This car seat looks and feels great, unfortunately Graco decided to update to the 'click-connect' system without letting other stroller manufacturers know about it (I was told this by one of them) and hence there are no travel system adapters available out there right now or in the near future.

So unless you have a dedicated Click Connect stroller from Graco, you should stay away from this system.

Honest reviews on Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35 Car Seat

The Snug Ride Click Connect 35 seat really impressed me. Two years ago when we were in the market for a new infant carrier car seat I was very disappointed in the quality of the Graco Snug Ride infant carriers. We had used a Snug Ride with our two older children and we loved the seat. When it came time to buy a new one for our youngest I was unimpressed by the poor quality of the Graco seats. The handles were flimsy and the seat covers were thin and not as nicely padded as they used to be. So two years ago we chose the Chicco KeyFit 22 over Graco. It seems like Graco stepped up the quality over the past couple of years. The handle on this seat is just as nice as they used to be 11 years ago. In fact, I think the handle is just as nice and comfortable to carry as the Chicco KeyFit. The padding for the seat is good. It's not as cushy as the KeyFit, but it's comparable to the Britax B-Safe. The Graco seat has the added advantage of holding a child from 4lbs up to 35lbs. Our KeyFit is only for infants up to 22lbs and was outgrown a while ago. My 18 month old (20lbs 31 inches) fits in this Graco infant carrier with room to grow. The seat must be comfortable because she didn't want to get out of it when she tested it out. So if you're looking for a seat that will have some longevity, this one will work.

The seat is light. It weighs in at 7 ½ lbs which is significantly lighter than our Key Fit and B-Safe infant carriers. That makes a big difference in how long you can carry your child around in the seat. I wouldn't want to have to carry my 18 month old around in this seat, but I was able to carry her when we tested it out.

I did find that the canny for the seat, seems to get in the way when you adjust the carry handle. It is a bit of a nuisance, but there good news is you can detach the canopy if the obstruction really irritates you. I had similar issues with the canopy getting in the way with our Chicco KeyFit seat, but the problem seems a little worse with this Graco seat.

I like the front adjust for the for the harness. I won't entertain using an infant carrier that doesn't have a harness that can be adjusted from the front. The carriers that adjust from the rear just aren't practical since it's easier to put a baby in the seat if you can loosen the harness first.

Installing the base was relatively easy. It's not as easy as installing the Chicco Key Fit base, but it's a lot easier than fighting with the Britax B-Agile base which is a pain in the rear. My biggest complaint about the base for this seat is there is only one level indicator. If you are installing this seat on the driver's side of the car you will not be able to see the level. I prefer to have a level indicator on both sides to eliminate any confusion. Britax and Chicco both have two level indicators on their car seat bases.

Adjusting the incline on the base is as simple as turning the dial on the seat. It's easier to adjust the incline on this seat than it is to do the same with the Britax B-Safe base. It's say it's on par with the ease of use for the KeyFit base.

Overall, the infant carrier is decent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Ive used a Graco snug ride 35 with each of my 3 kids. Wouldn't use another seat. Roomy enough to keep babies in this seat for first year...lite enough to carry for a year! 2 downfalls-1-cant carry it when the canopy is up; no room between handle n canopy. 2-if crying in seat, baby gets hot n sweaty. Would like a different material.
